General Information
The Benton Charter Township Police Department was formed in the early 1950’s. The police department currently has twenty-five sworn law enforcement officers at this time. We also have four secretaries to maintain our reports and records center and two ordinance officers. Our agency handles between 15,000 and 17,000 complaints a year.
Announcements:
Anyone calling for police services or to talk to a member of the police department need only call 925-1135 and listen to the appropriate voice-messaging prompt. Our lobby and records department hours will be from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Tuesday through Friday. Anyone who drives to the police department can speak with a dispatcher during normal business hours or after 4:30pm by using the call button on the outside west wall at the door; this call will ring directly into the 911 Dispatch Center. Officers will come to the station to assist you in those instances. It remains our goal to provide the best police services possible.
As a friendly reminder to our Township residents there are in place local ordinances for maintaining our Township as a clean, safe, and attractive area in which to live. A few of these ordinances are listed below and we encourage our residents to be aware of them:
#26.212-deals with any inoperable or unregistered vehicles
#62.2 -deals with the accumulation or storage of trash, garbage, rubbish
#82.612-deals with appropriate parking areas off public roadways
#62.6 -deals with the prohibited burning of garbage, rubbish, or trash
Being aware of these ordinances will help avoid any citations for violations. Copies of these and any other ordinances are available at the Township upon request.
On behalf of the Benton Charter Township Police Department we hope you have a safe and prosperous year.
